When should kids have an eye exam?

Why a yearly exam matters during school years, and what OHIP covers.

Children rarely say their vision is blurry. They often think everyone sees the way they do, so changes show up as squinting, sitting close to screens, headaches or a dip in focus at school.

In Ontario, OHIP covers an eye exam for children under 19. A yearly visit lets our optometrists track how your child's eyes are changing, not just whether they need glasses today.

If nearsightedness is starting or growing quickly, ask about myopia management. There are lenses and contact lenses designed to slow it down, and our optometrists can explain which fits your child.
